8.31.23 Update
Although the weather was questionable until shortly after noon last weekend, our turnout for the wine & cheese event was great! About a dozen Eduners and friends participated; each with a different wine and plenty of cheese. To this observer, it appeared everyone enjoyed themselves. Perhaps some participants forgot it.
As our season approaches its inevitable conclusion, the weather guessers tell us this weekend will be particularly good. In the high 90’s without all the humidity that made being outside difficult to enjoy. We hope you will join us … and there are good reasons.
Open House
Saturday will be an open house so those curious about Naturism can experience it for themselves. If you have never tried it or a friend of yours has expressed cautious interest, join us Saturday at noon. This is free for anyone who has never visited our facility in the past. It is a great (and inexpensive) way to give it a test run.
Don’t keep this event a secret. If you know someone who might be interested, be sure to tell them about this open house.
Labor Day Events
This weekend is the traditional closing book-end to our season. While we expect several more weeks of great weather to enjoy, we also anticipate a good group of Eduners will be on hand to enjoy this 3-day weekend at our special place.
Take off your shoes…and clothes…because it’s time to kick up your heels with your friends at Lake Edun! With dinner provided, you’ll have plenty of time to cha cha, slide or macarena, if that is still a thing kids do nowadays? Either way, if you don’t feel like busting out the dance moves your mom taught you in the living room in 8th grade, just sit back and relax by the fire because you’ve earned it. You hard worker you.
If you’re adventurous, bring a sleeping bag and spend the night. There is sure to be a good time after the sun sets.
Oh, don’t forget that Saturday is also open house so bring your friends and your friend’s friends and, of course, their friends and their friend’s friends… (In short, don’t keep this a secret.) We look forward to showing off our 8th grade dance moves with you!
Where: Lake Edun
When: Sept 2nd
What: Dinner and Dancing starts at 6 but come as early as you like
Why: Because it’s the happiest place on Earth, duh.
Just 2,400 Steps Will Help
If you’re not hitting 10,000 steps a day, don’t sweat it. That supposedly magical number for optimal fitness was actually made up back in the 1960’s by Japanese marketing executives promoting a new pedometer.
Now the largest study of its kind – covering data on more than 225,000 people across multiple countries – has shown that the real daily target should be much lower: just 2,337 steps, to be exact. That, scientists concluded, is the minimum required to reduce your risk of dying prematurely from heart disease or stroke.
Still, if you can keep going, you should. Push it up to 3,967 steps, and you’ll cut your risk of dying from any cause. Walk even farther, and those health benefits will continue to increase all the way up to at least 20,000 steps a day. Each extra 1,000 steps is associated with another 15 percent reduced risk of dying from any cause. “Our study confirms that the more you walk, the better,” lead author Maciej Banach, from the Medical University of Lodz in Poland, tells The Times (U.K.). “We found that this applied to both men and women, irrespective of age.”
Stretch your legs … and your leg muscles. Get out & walk. We want our Eduners to be with us for years to come. And we have some great trails for you to enjoy.
Annual Meeting
Our Annual Meeting is only 6 weeks away. This is when we take stock of the year past and look forward to the coming year. We hope all Eduners can and will attend. Tell us: What did you like about the 2023 season? What would you like to see next year? What can we do to improve?
This is also the time we choose new members for our board of directors. We hope you will consider volunteering to serve on our board. The board meets once each month with our winter meetings being the most important (That’s when we make plans for the next year).
We all have different strengths we can bring to the board. Are you good at marketing? Perhaps you know something about planning activities? Maybe you’d be good at publicity. We all have different talents. Bring yours to the board so we can continue to grow and offer a program that’s inviting to both our members and prospective members. Together we can make a great season in 2024. If you have questions, just reply to this email.
